Replantation, toe-to-hand transfers, soft tissue reconstruction, and the crushed paediatric hand
One + Impact Talk (Day 1)
6 + Impact Talk
Dr Binu P. Thomas
Microsurgery is where reconstructive ambition meets technical virtuosity. For the paediatric upper limb, the stakes are higher and the targets smaller — vessels of 0.5 mm, growth plates that must be respected, and the prospect of decades of life ahead for the reconstructed limb.
The Day 1 microsurgery session covers the full reconstructive ladder: toe-to-hand transfers for traumatic and congenital absence, upper limb replantation, complex soft tissue reconstruction, and the management of paediatric hand and forearm crush injuries.
The session is preceded by an impact talk from Dr Binu P. Thomas (CMC Vellore) on free functional muscle transfer for Volkmann's ischaemic contracture — a procedure that exemplifies the marriage of microsurgical technique and functional reconstruction principles.
